Invest in yourself!
This country has changed a lot over the last century. We have gone from an industrial nation where manual labor was the norm for hours upon hours of the day, to now a technology driven nation where most people will be lucky to get in 1 hour of manual labor a week. Needless to say our society is much less active than it used to be. In addition to our much more sedentary lives, we have also catered our eating habits and food to be much more efficient rather than nutritious. Fast food did not exist in the early 20th century. Today you would be hard pressed to drive 2 blocks in a major city without seeing a fast food location. We have traded food quality for convenience and quantity, and we have replaced an active lifestyle with sitting... and more sitting. You don't have to be a genius to figure out that these 2 changes do not bode well for us. Even now some of the top causes of death are preventable diseases like cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and a host of others due to the obesity epidemic. This was not the case 100 years ago.
Now should we all reset as a society and go back to manual work and do away with technology? No way, that is not what I am trying to illustrate. Technology has so many advantages and it is not to blame for our sedentary lives and poor eating habits. We are faced with a challenge to work against the negative effect that technology can play on our lifestyle. Now more than ever a premium has to be placed on exercise and healthy eating. It is extremely easy to let technology draw you to that couch, or to that fast food drive thru on the way home from sitting all day at your desk at work. No more do we as a society get enough physical activity from our daily functions. Technology has taken care of most of that for us. So NOW we must make it a purpose to get the physical activity we need from exercise. NOW we must take that extra effort to buy healthy foods at the grocery store and prepare nutritious meals. If we cannot do this, then we may forget how and a bleak future of immobile unhealthy humans will start to devolve. Heck many people are clueless today on how to eat healthy and do proper exercise. This is a major reason I am here doing what I do as a fitness trainer and nutrition coach.
